The green iguana is a large, arboreal lizard found throughout Central and South America, as well as on the Caribbean Islands. They are typically about 6 feet in length from head to tail and can weigh up to 11 pounds.

Although called green iguanas, as seen in this picture these animals are variable in color. The adults become more uniform in color with age, and the young may appear more blotchy or banded between green and brown. The lizard's color may also vary based on its mood, temperature, health, or social status. Scientific classification:
