The American Pika is a diurnal species of Pika found in the mountains of western North America, usually in boulder fields at or above tree line. Pikas are also known as rock rabbits, coneys, or "whistling hares" due to their high-pitched alarm calls. The Pika looks much like a hamster, but is actually a cousin of the rabbit. Scientific classification:
