The 307-foot tall UT Tower in Austin, Texas, designed by Paul Cret of Philadelphia, was completed in 1937. The Tower is the most distinguishing landmark at the University, and one of the tallest buildings in Austin. The tower has a notoriously tragic history, most notably when Charles Whitman opened fire from the observation deck (just below this clock) on August 1, 1966, killing 14 people and wounding many others.
